Other server software
The Tansa Web Service and Tansa Update are also installed on the Tansa server.
Tansa Web Service
Communication between all Tansa System 3 Clients and the Tansa Server is handled via the Tansa Web Service. The Tansa Web Service was created to provide a platform-independent communication standard between all components of the Tansa system.
The Tansa Web Service uses:
- HTTP-port (Web port 80): Communication is handled by Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), running in conjunction with the Tansa Server.
- XML and SOAP: Information is passed between the client software and the server software as XML data via the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP).
Because the clients are now all communicating with the Tansa Server via a Web service, the physical location of the user is less important.
They do not have to be on the company’s internal Local Area Network (LAN). In fact, they could be located anywhere in the world. If the client has an Internet connection and can access the Tansa Server (can pass through any firewalls), then he or she can use the Tansa services.
Tansa Update
Tansa Update is an automated server process that helps customers keep their Tansa solution updated properly.
On a regular basis, the Tansa Update process automatically communicates with the Tansa Software Update Server over the Internet, looking for any updated server or client software components, as well as any updates to your custom dictionary. If it finds any updates, it will download them.
NOTE: For it to function, the machine running the Tansa Web Service and the Tansa Server must have access to the Internet through port 21 (standard FTP port).
Tansa Update is configured using the Tansa Administrator. Using the System Update Module of the Administrator application, administrators can set the time and frequency for the Tansa Update process. The System Update Module shows which system components are currently installed and which components need to be updated (if any) after a new software update installer has been downloaded by Tansa Update.
The Dictionary Update Module for the Administrator application is used to manage Primary Dictionary updates. After Tansa Update downloads a new version of a customer’s Primary Dictionary (or Primary Dictionaries), the Dictionary Update Modules alerts administrators that an update has arrived and gives them a simple method for installing the update and archiving the previously installed version.
