The client/server nature of the Tansa system makes it possible to integrate the solution into just about any application that works with text.
The integration involves making the Tansa Client for the appropriate platform (Windows, Mac OS X or Java™) work within the desktop application or applications that you are using. This is normally done by creating a Tansa Extension (or "plug-in") for the application that sends the text on the screen to the Tansa Server (via the Tansa Web Service).
Tansa supplies native System 3 Text Proofing and Hyphenation Extensions for the current versions of some of the most widely-used content creation and editing applications, including:
- Adobe Illustrator™*
- Adobe InCopy™
- Adobe InDesign™
- Java™
- HTML
- Microsoft PowerPoint™
- Microsoft Word™
- QuarkCopyDesk™
- QuarkXPress™

If your editorial workflow system or content management solution is based on any of the applications listed above, then Tansa may be compatible "out of the box" and without any special development.
However, because many editorial workflow systems modify the way that the applications listed above function, these modifications may affect the way Tansa operates. For that reason, Tansa Systems usually tries to "certify" that our software is compatible with a third-party content system in advance. To find out if your current system has been certified to work with Tansa, contact Tansa Systems.
Tansa Software Development Kit (SDK)
Developers of third-party Windows, Mac OS X or Java™ client applications can integrate Tansa into their software through the use of the Tansa Software Development Kit (SDK).
Tansa Systems has developed a complete SDK for creating Tansa Clients. The SDK is intended to make it as easy as possible for our partners to integrate their desktop applications into the Tansa Text Proofing System 3. The SDK allows 3rd-party Tansa Clients to take full advantage of the System 3 Tansa Server and adhere to the user interface standards.
A COM library — that includes user interface, language-independence, logging, server communication, licensing confirmation, user settings, etc. — is included in the SDK. This can significantly shorten the development time for third parties. It also allows Tansa's developers to make improvements to the system that affect all of the client applications that are integrated into the Tansa System.
The SDK also includes a complete overview of the user interface and full documentation with cross-references and hyperlinks to definitions and other sections. It also includes the source code for two complete Tansa Client plug-ins, written in Visual Basic and C++.
Some of the systems that have been integrated in this way, include:
- Escenic: Content Studio
- SAXOTECH: SAXoTEXT text editing application
- Unisys: Hermes, Newsroom application
If you are the developer of an editorial workflow or content management solution and you are interested in integrating the Tansa Text Proofing System into your client application, please contact Tansa Systems about licensing the Tansa Software Development Kit (SDK).
